Anti-Facebook?

It's kinda shocked to hear about Anti-Facebook?? since Facebook is kinda recent trend among internet users nowadays. Well, at least I am shocked. Facebook is rated as the most used social network with more than 500 million active users from all around the world. Of course there are the Facebook competitors such as MySpace, Friendster, Hi-5; but they are all in the same business focus that is to attract internet users to use their social network by providing many interesting features, games, applications and ways of communication. Then, suddenly here comes the Facebook haters coming out of no where, calling and collecting people to shut their Facebook account. So pathetic, they have to sign-up with Facebook themselves in order to do that.

Diaspora
Diaspora meanwhile, is said to be the new Facebook rival which will release on 15 September. Diaspora is an open-source alternative for Facebook, Twitter and other social networks where users may download the software and install in their own website. Otherwise, use the one-click sign-up version which it's availability  in Diaspora is still unknown. From what I understand, it means users can create and control their own social network. I'm not sure, but the features sounds familiar to me. Isn't it similar to services provided by Ning or Buddypress?

However, if Diaspora really wish to challenge the fast growing Facebook, they really have a long way to go.
